Moira vs. Dr. Coyle (Overwatch vs. ARMS)

“One might say that there is an ‘Ethics barrier’ a speed above which ethics can no longer exit. After that point, the only remaining goal is to survive the immediate moment.” - Pekka Himanen

Moria O’Deorain: Ex Overwatch agent turned into one of Talon’s inner circle.

Dr. Coyle: The Rad Scientist of ARMS Labs.

Science is a wonderful thing that shapes the world we live in. But what if it goes too far? What if those with the knowledge set out to destroy us all in the sake of progress. Well look no further than these two mad geniuses of genetics. Stand back and put on your safety gear, we are about to find out which of these two will reign supreme in Media Mania!

Before We Begin

You may be aware that this blog has been done before by the folks at G2 (Full credit to them for their work). While the blog does a decent job at listing the abilities and arsenal of the characters it has a lot of decisions stat-wise and presentation-wise we disagree with. This is not meant to be a hit piece on the G2 team and the people behind the blog but we would like to make an updated blog for the match-up that we believe does a better job representing some aspect of the debate.

For Moira we will be using Overwatch 1 and 2 along with their various comic, novels and promotional shorts.

Dr. Coyle will be given ARMS along with promotional material and the limited amount we have from the ARMS comic.

Credits to Matchup Madness’ Adam VS Rammatra, The VSBA's Reaper VS Noob Saibot and New Horizons Little Mac VS Spring Man (Of which Door-Kun gave us authorization to use the list of Arms which I wrote for that blog)

Background

Moira

“We are bedevilled by the mysteries of creation.”

What would you do to get the right answer? For Moira O’Deorain, this question had a predetermined answer, that you should do anything to get the correct answer. Moira pushed the evolutionary advancement of humanity, creating information on cellular manipulation. What seemed like a promising step for humanity was met with an attempted silence by those at Overwatch. But for everyone who disagreed, there’s always someone out there who’ll agree with your ethics.

Joining the secret organisation of Blackwatch, Moira was a knowledgeable addition through her intelligence and will to do anything. While the employment was a secret, Antonio Bartalotti's apprehension was a nightmare. Talon fought against Blackwatch, leaving the group fighting wave after wave of soldiers. After this event, Blackwatch was revealed to the world, and many dissociated with Moira.

So when a striking new opportunity came about, she couldn’t say no. Talon had hired Moira, creating a great relationship between herself and the organisation where she became a part of Talon’s inner council. Not much is known about what Moira is doing, but you best beware, as you might become apart of her next experiment

Dr. Coyle

“That cheap parlor trick is really a disadvantage when protecting against an incoming rush.”

As a young girl Coyle was obsessed with the ARMS mutation. Flash forward as an adult she gets to fully embrace her passion of creation as the director of ARMS Labs. But being the youngest director in ARMS Lab history isn't enough for Dr. Coyle. She needed to be a champion! And to do that Coyle began to experiment. Creating master crafts in science like her fighting gear and entire ARMS competitors. Nothing is ever enough for Coyle unless it's at its absolute pinnacle.

Oh and she also hates fellow competitor and champion Max Brass for unknown reasons. And she goes to extreme lengths to beat him and anyone who stands in her way to the top. Whether it be winning the Grand Prix and sneaking her way in, Dr. Coyle will always chase evolution, one way or another.

Experience/Skill/IQ/Other

Moira

The only person able to scientifically challenge Mercy, Moira is a cunning and dangerous scientist who has no morals. She dedicated her life to ‘unravelling life’s secrets’. Her knowledge in Cellular reconstruction allowed her to re-create Gabriel Reyes into Reaper and allowed him to use the phasing power he’s known for. We also know she genetically manipulated Widowmaker, improving her aim and numbing her emotions.

While Moira might not be known for her combat abilities, she has been seen working with Blackwatch on missions. Most notably, the Retribution missions, where she’s seen fighting against many Talon soldiers (before she joined them). She’s also considered important enough to be a part of Talon’s higher council.

Dr. Coyle

Dr. Coyle isn't a doctor for no reason. She is incredibly gifted in science as the creator of the Hedlok, Springtown, Helix and the Cell. She even resurrected Master Mummy. Rumor has it she has 52 doctorates after all! Of course she also created the technology she uses in battle as well. Coyle is no slouch when it comes to combat either as she has been capable of winning the ARMS Grand Prix and bodying its champion Max Brass with ease. It's even stated she has no hobbies as all Dr. Coyle has time to think about is ARMS.

Between her invisibility, flight and signature weapons of choice Coyle tends to play more distanced and defensive. Launching ranged fireballs, attacks to slow and defensive umbrellas to keep her opponents out while she damages them over the course of the match. However, due to her wide variety of other Arms she isn't locked into any style of combat and can set up her Arm combinations to counter opponents accordingly. This versatility and defensive style is complemented very well by her analytical view on fighting. Coyle is always one to pick apart her opponents to exploit any weaknesses they may have.

Dr. Coyle is also solid in a diverse amount of challenges such as playing volleyball, dunking other ARMS competitors, target scoring and fighting 100 enemies in quick succession.

Abilities

Moira

Passive Ability

As with every healer, Moira will regenerate faster than others around her.

Biotic Grasp

Her main way of both healing and attacking, Biotic Grasp is an incredibly versatile primary. Starting with basics, Her main way of damaging is a purple beam, which ‘grasps’ onto the target and begins to suck them. It has a long-range, allowing for her to assault foes from afar. Not only that, but the beam also regenerates biotic energy (Which is what charges your healing energy). The purple biotic grasp also heals Moira over time. This has no ammo cap and can be used infinitely.

For her healing beam, this weapon sprays for as long as Moira has biotic energy, which will passively regenerate over time. This yellow beam passes through allies and enemies, allowing you to heal multiple people at once.

Biotic Orb

Just like her Grasp, Moira possesses two different orbs. These Biotic orbs bounce off walls, slowing down when they’re either hurting or healing the target. The damage orb also recharges Biotic Energy, while the healing one just looks cool.

Fade

By de-materialising herself, Moira can become temporarily invisible, clearing any status effects from herself and becoming immune to damage. This increases her movement speed, allowing her to move in quick bursts or jump incredibly high. The only issue is that you cannot shoot during this, needing to leave Fade before attacking again.

Coalescence

Moira’s ultimate is Coalescence, a powerful beam that fires both damaging and healing energy, giving Moira the best of both worlds as it bypasses barriers. This comes with neat advantages, such as healing, bionic energy recharges, and the ability to use Fade to reposition herself during the ult.

Dr. Coyle

ARMS Mutation

The ARMS mutation is a special genetic ability granted to 20% of the population. This special mutation grants the lucky person an uncontrollable stretchy coil effect to a body part (usually the… ARMS) that releases powerful punches.

Levitation

Dr. Coyle is capable of floating above ground level at all times. Great for avoiding sharp objects on the floor of her lab.

Invisibility

After being knocked down or while shielding Dr. Coyle can become completely invisible to the naked eye. However, she can also just do this naturally as shown above. This is useful for manipulating people into playing a guessing game on where she is at all times.

Guard

Dr. Coyle can put up a small barrier to negate most of the opponents incoming damage. If Coyle perfectly times a Guard she will instead perform a Parry, which gives her a moment to act immediately after guarding the attack.

Rush

After an Arms fighter does enough fighting they will fill up their Rush gauge. Once Rush is filled up they can unleash a flurry of high speed attacks in a short frame of time. After Rush has run out they must refill the gauge once more before using Rush again.

Arsenal

Moira

Backpack

To use all of her abilities, Moira has a backpack which runs through her outfit and towards her hands (You can see it in her sleeves). If this gets destroyed, likely, she cannot access her abilities.

Tennis Racket

We are going to beat you to death.

Dr. Coyle

Mask

Combatants like Coyle control their ARMS mutation through a special regulator mask which would otherwise be random in behavior.

Arms

The main attraction of the ARMS competition are the titular Arms themselves. While all combatants have their own signature arms they all can pull from the entire catalog of arms at any time. Combatants like Coyle are only limited by having two slots for arms at once but they are free to mix and match as they choose. Arms of course being extendable punching implements that are used to punch and grab foes from long range. Arms can also be charged up to increase their power and add element effects to the attack.

Dr. Coyle is also uniquely able to temporarily sprout extra Arms to increase her power even further.

Image

Name

Function

Toaster

An Arm that delivers a medium weight straight shot. When charged it will add fire to the punches, and is obviously a fire type ARM.

Boomerang

The Boomerang flies in an arc to go around obstacles and hit enemies from behind. It has the element of wind to knock enemies into the air.

Tribolt

Fires 3 lightweight projectiles at once. Can be imbued with the ability to stun enemies when charged up.

Revolver

Fires consecutive, revolving shots to keep the opponent under pressure. Charged up the projectiles become electrified to shock opponents.

Whammer

A big hammer to slam foes into the floor with high damage hits. When charged they gain the ability to stun the opponent.

Homie

For the laziest of fighters is the Homie. Skill is no longer a requirement with this auto targeting Arm. When charged it explodes on contact with the foe.

Sparky

One of the most popular arms in the arena. These gloves punch straight and when charged can give the opponent an electrical stun.

Popper

Shoots put revolving stars to overwhelm the opponent. Charging the arm up adds the wind element to knock the enemy far away.

Slapamander

This glorified oven mitt reaches across a wide area to punish foes who try to dodge it. Charge it up to roast the enemy with a good flaming slap.

Chilla

The exact opposite of the Toaster. Throws straight shot punches that when charged, hit foes with sub-zero freezing punches.

Parasol

The Parasol is an Arm geared more towards defense. When it opens up it creates a hard to break barrier that slowly moves towards the enemy. The Parasol Can then be spread up for a bit of offense and when charged it uses the wind element to blow the opponent back.

Thunderbird

Launches unpredictable birds which fly towards the opponent. Charging it up lets the birds shock opponents to make overwhelming the enemy easier.

Chakram

A revamped ninja weapon capable of curving as they fly. This makes dodging them incredibly difficult.

Buff

A very simple glove that is bigger than the average. It acts as a stepping stone towards the more complicated Arms.

Triblast

Shoots 3 horizontal shots at the same time to restrict the opponents movement. When charged the Triblast Is able to explode enemies it hits for high damage.

Seekie

Seeks down enemies from long range to do massive damage. Charged up they are even able to shock opponents with electricity.

Cracker

Shoots spiraling stars to pressure pestering opponents. Charge it up to watch them burn with the fire element.

Bubb

These easy to use gloves buff up in size to make landing punches easier.

Megaton

This Arm is a large ball of damage that easily breaks through enemy arms and blocks their attacks. However, this comes at the cost of being very slow and easy to avoid.

Retorcher

Launches a barrage of revolving projectiles. When charged it gains the fire element to cook its opponent.

Phoenix

Shoots birds that move around the arena making them impossible to tract and block. When charged they are imbued with fire and set the enemy ablaze.

Slamamander

A whip-like Arm that covers a wide area making it hard for opponents to escape. Charged up they gain the wind effect to knock enemies back.

Hydra

Shoots 3 vertical missiles to catch opponents who like to jump around. When charged the Arm catches enemies on fire when it hits.

Coolerang

Basically just the Boomerang if it was cool. No literally charging it up lets its freeze enemies

Dragon

The Dragon is a very unique arm. After launching forward it can fire a devastating beam that when charged, sets the opponent on fire.

Megawatt

They somehow made the Megaton slower. However, this is for good reason as this version of it can be charged with electricity to shock its enemies.

Ramram

Throws spinning rings at the enemy to catch them moving to them while they’re moving away. Charging them up allows them to start cooking the enemies with fire.

Blorb

A big, bouncy blob with the ability to blind enemies when charged up.

Ice Dragon

Attacks similarly to the regular dragon but the beam comes out slightly slower. However, unlike its flaming counterpart the Ice Dragon shoots a freezing beam.

Guardian

A slow moving shield that easily blocks enemy attacks. It can then lunge forward a short distance to catch them off guard. Charged up they even gain the electric effect to shock the opponent.

Nade

A glove that is capable of exploding on impact. This high damage comes at the cost of being unable to guide it mid flight.

Roaster

The Roaster is the Toaster but even hotter with blue flames when charged. Unfortunately this extra damage comes with the trade off of losing the guidance system making punches from this glove hard to land.

Kablammer

Bonks foes with heavy but slow hits. When charged this arm can even explode enemies on impact.

Funchunk

A glove with a spinning attack to make reading its trajectory hard. This spin is even changed during a jump to keep the opponent on their toes even more. When charged up it's even powerful enough to stun the foe it hits.

Biffler

With the power of marketing this Arm fires 3 vertical shots. When charged this Arm stamps the commentator, Biff's face onto the opponent. This face is so ugly the opponent is blinded for a short time.

Clapback

A defensive Arm capable of deflecting attacks directed at it. It can also jolt forward to damage enemies for small amounts of damage.

Scorpio

Fires out a small scorpion to pounce on the competition. When charged the scorpions become poisonous making them way more dangerous.

Glusher

An arm that bounces its way towards an enemy, The Blusher is pretty slow but hard to predict. When it is charged up it is even capable of poisoning enemies.

Skully

Nothing fun about this arm, it's nothing but bone. Because it's so stripped down it has good power and speed. Charged up it can even poison opponents.

Lokjaw

One of Coyles's signature Arms is the Lokjaw. Its a unique Arm as when it is launched it shoots out a blast of fire. Despite the projectile being described as fire the Arm gains the explosive element when it is charged.

Parabola

A variant of The Parasol that changed the charge effect to electricity. It is another one of Coyles signature arms.

Brrchuk

The last of the doctor's signature Arms is the Brrchuk. Launches fast spinning nunchucks that change how they spin in the air. Unlike its counterpart in the Funchuck this Arm gains the freeze effect when charged to slow opponents down.

Hedlok

In her attempts to evolve humanity Coyle created a masterpiece. Hedlok is a large helmet that controls the actions of its wearer. She herself can also dawn Hedlok to absolutely crush anyone In front of her with its four Arms.

Support

JK! This does not need to be an army fight lol. Hedlok is only here because he's a summonable piece of equipment.

Scaling

Moira

Overwatch

Originally a member of Overwatch Moira knows the ins and outs of this team. Generally throughout the Retribution mission Moira is portrayed to be on-par with Genji and Cassidy, to modern-day Overwatch members who should scale to the other Overwatch members. Thus, Moira should scale to the various members of Overwatch.

Talon

Moira’s current place of work holds many of the verses' most powerful characters. While Moira isn't the strongest of Talon she has harmed and killed the likes of Talon Heavies, who can survive a plethora of blasts from Reaper's shotguns. While she isn't anywhere as efficient at killing them she is still able to sufficiently harm Talon Heavies and beat them on her own. This should provide enough evidence to say she downscales from middle of the pack Talon members such as Reaper.

Omnics

While Moira herself wasn't known for dealing with the Omnic Crisis she does scale to various Overwatch Agents who had a hand in cleaning it up meaning she should scale to the Omnics.

Dr. Coyle

Creations

Dr. Coyles' precious babies are very strong in the ARMS arena. However Coyle has shown she can keep up and match her creations to show them who's there… Mommy? Regardless she scales.

Other ARMS Fighters

Dr. Coyles's opponents are also people she can reasonably scale to. Coyle can fight every single contender for the champion title and beat them all in the Grand Prix. Along with that, all ARMS fighters have fought Max Brass who Coyle beat the bricks off of. Safe to say she scales to her competition as well.

Weaknesses

Moira

Moira is an egomaniac, plain and simple. Doing anything to enhance her experiments can create conflict within her groups. As a healer, you probably don’t want to end up with your team members hating you.

As for other weaknesses? Her biotic energy needs to constantly be recharged for her to heal, all of her abilities are on cooldowns, meaning that she needs to stall for time, and her ultimate ability needs to charge before she can use it.

Dr. Coyle

Dr Coyle is great intellectually but she is not without flaws. She has a very short temper and is prone to getting frustrated. So much that she would destroy her own creations in a fit of rage.

There also are some disadvantages with Coyle's main method of attack. While Arms are great at range they can struggle in close quarters combat and can be disabled after enough hits are delivered to the Arms. Additionally, without her regulator mask, Dr. Coyles's Arms are no longer under her control and won't be very helpful in the fight.

Before We Decide

Small City-City Overwatch

Now before we talk about the Titan Omnic and its surviving volcano eruption shots, we will preface by saying we will not talk about Sojourn surviving city-destroying bombs. If you want an explanation on them and why they are not valid you can read Matchup Madness's Rammatra VS Adam Taurus.

Now at first scaling the cast to Torbjörn’s turrets sounds dumb. It's shown to be the only weapon that can deal with the Titan Omnic in Gothenburg so why would anyone scale? Well to start, the Titan Omnic in Gothenburg is incredibly far away from the Overwatch team that is there at the time. This is important because the team includes two melee heroes in the form of Reinhardt and Brigitte, Bastion who is known for having damage fall off at range and is a character whose power comes from hitting your enemies with a bunch of smaller attacks over and over until they die and Torbjörn who is always a character who is meant to use gadgets and turrets to make himself more powerful. His tiny Rivet Gun isn't meant to be able to solo a Titan Omnic.

So despite being able to get hitmarkers on the Titan Omnic, at the range they are given it makes sense the team would rather use turrets and a much larger cannon to quickly beat the Titan rather than spend five years as the Titan Omnic destroys Gothenburg.

So how does Moira scale to the Titan Omnic? While it does seem like it always requires a very powerful attack to harm a Titan Omnic (Dragon Blade, Meis Backpack and Torbjörn’s turrets) These are things that surprisingly Moira can scale to. Mainly through Genji being able to deflect and cut through the Titan Omnic's hand. This is because enemies can survive multiple hits from the Dragon Blade (such as Retribution era Talon Heavies). Even as a support Moira is still able to take down these large scale enemies and thus, downscaling should make sense.

Another point of note is that the Dragon Blade isn't an ability that no one in the verse can match at all. Genji is physically portrayed to be above Hanzo in the “Dragons” short.  This is important because Hanzo was able to survive his and Genji's Shimada Dragons overwhelming him at once. Meaning that even characters who downscale Genji (Like Moira) can survive even his strongest attack and possibly more.

So in conclusion. Moira can scale to Small City-City level Overwatch and scaling characters to the Titan Omnics durability makes sense with the contexts we have seen the Titans in.

FTL-MFTL+ Overwatch

(Only the 100 time someone has gone over this feat)

Before discussing if Moira scales to the FTL and MFTL+ feats it's important to establish the feats themselves

The first is Genji blocking light from Illari. It's pretty simple, Genji is capable of using his sword to deflect Illari's light. Now, there are two commonly brought up problems with this feat.

  1. Genji performs this feat in Overwatch gameplay, which does not line up with lore

  2. Illari's light is iffy

However, we believe these criticisms can be countered.

The first point on gameplay makes a lot of sense on the surface. Obviously, the gameplay in Overwatch does not match the inverse lore. However, the gameplay of Overwatch does still match the lore in some way in terms of the character's physical capabilities. This is shown through the Overwatch story missions. In the canonical Retribution, Storm Rising and Invasion story missions Genji's deflect is shown to act exactly as it does within the actual game of Overwatch. Genji overall is the same character in both the base game and canon missions. Meaning the in-game version of Genji should be able to match the lore version of Genji in terms of feats due to them being the same character with the same ability. It would also make very little sense for the Overwatch game to have absolutely no bearing on the characters within lore. Now when it comes to using the gameplay for scaling characters that's a whole different issue we will tackle in a bit but it should make sense that the in-game version of Genji being able to reflect light would match the lore version of Genji and what he is capable of since the abilities and character are functionally the same.

But what about the light itself? Once again the point makes a lot of sense at a glance but can likely be explained. Illari's primary follows the laws of light very well (travels in a straight line, reflects off Genji’s blade and burns). However, it does potentially have mass as it can be turned to energy by Sigma and his Kinetic Grasp. Even though the light getting absorbed into the black hole makes sense. Along with the mass issue, looking at Illari's other abilities the light can magically heal people and push people back with force. So why is it still valid in our eyes? Simple, it's sunlight. Yes, the light potentially breaks the laws and just going “it's sunlight” feels like a cop-out but its specifically enhanced sunlight being channeled through Illari and her weapon. The augmented nature of the light could be an explanation for the potential mass issue. The sunlight also shouldn't be getting slowed down somehow as the light is directly taken from the sun and threaded into a laser.

However, this feat matters very little in front of the MFTL+ feat in the room. In this feat, we see Tracer blitz the perceptions of a group of Omnics. Omnics have perceptions that can think in a Microfraction of Microsecond. People have tried to say no one scales to Tracer or her blinks but like… this point gets countered by literally one Doomfist gif lmao. And while Doomfist is above Genji and Tracer in power you can see he had trouble keeping up with them at many points and relied on strategy to match speed.

“But weren't they lower-level Omnics?” So they wouldn't have the same high perception speeds. Sure but… it wasn't just any hyper-specific Omnics with MFTL+ processing. It was described as the Omnic community. Meaning likely Omnics of all types that listened to the band's music could hear and understand the microfraction of a microsecond difference.

“But Omnics get blitzed by bullets! Their reactions don't match their perceptions!” Not what's being analyzed. We aren't looking at the Omnics reactions, we are looking at the Omnics perceptions getting blitzed by Tracer. These can also be considered as anti-feats for the Omnics used for gameplay and story purposes.

And so we get to the final question: how does Moira scale? Welcome back everyone's favorite scaling dealer Genji Shimada. In this case we do a simple scaling chain from Doomfist catching Tracer to Genji keeping up with Doomfist in speed to Moira keeping up with the Blackwatch team. You can also cut out Doomfist and say Genji can track Tracer when she is blinking when the two are sparring.

To wrap this up, we believe that Moira should be able to scale to that of FTL and MFTL+ speeds.

Sigma Scaling?

(Image made by Steggoman on Reddit)

While many Overwatch blogs have accepted the idea of the cast scaling to Sigma we actually have some issues here for Moira to get the scaling.

The main problem being is that Moira has no direct scaling chains to Sigma. Sigma is very blatantly on a pedestal that few characters can match in power based on his lore descriptions. Most of scaling to him is done through power speculation of Doomfist and Rammatra, neither of which have been fully confirmed (Though Doomfist can be heavily implied). Assuming you buy Doomfist scaling to Sigma you can then argue Mauga and Primal Rage Winston scaling to these higher end feats. You can then attempt to scale Moira to by using Baptiste, a lower tier Overwatch member who deserted Talon. This is because he beat Mauga in a fight. However, Baptiste not only had to use a prototype explosive to beat Mauga but Mauga was also not trying to hurt Baptiste during the battle due to their friendship. Because of this it's hard to scale Moira to an explosion that nobody on her level has ever survived as this is the only time Baptiste has used this weapon in this way.

Then there is gameplay scaling. While we believe it is ok to use feats from gameplay as we can show equivalency to lore we cannot do the same for actual scaling. In lore, Doomfist beat Winston, Tracer and Genji without much of an issue until primal rage was unleashed. However, in game this team would absolutely destroy Doomfist and would not line up with lore at all. Gameplay in Overwatch also has teams that would never team up in lore (I.E mixing Overwatch and Talon members) so that adds even less credibility to gameplay scaling.

Overall there is just no way to get Moira to scale to the level of power Sigma has without using logic that isn't very sound in our opinion.

Is the Megaton a MEGATON?

In ARMS there is an ARM called the Megaton. The Megaton is known for its weight and is a big ball of metal. Based on the name and emphasis on weight it shouldn't be unreasonable to say it weighs… megaton

Except for the issue that it is. Outside of the issue of having to infer the ARM weighs a Megaton, there is one glaring flaw. If you look at the image above you may notice that in Japan the ARM roughly translates to “Big Punch”. Japan of course is where ARMS was created so their translation is likely the most accurate. This means the name Megaton was not intended by the original Developers meaning there is no way they intended for the ARM to weigh a megaton. This is again assuming you go fully off the name and believe there to be no exaggeration with the naming.

So yeah, the Megaton probably doesn't weigh an actual megaton.

Hedlok Paints the Sky Red

Dr. Coyles greatest invention is a powerful creation. This secret boss is an incredibly powerful and challenging foe for any ARMS competitor. So powerful he potentially caused the sky to turn red in a storm?

No. There are a multitude of issues with this feat. The biggest one is that this isn't a calcable feat. The feat uses the common reference numbers for storm creation (1.29 Megatons of TNT). Now… please look at this feat and tell me a storm was formed? All Hedlok did was turn the sky dark which cannot be calculated. That's assuming Hedlok was the cause of this color change. When Hedlok first shows up, the sky does not change whatsoever. It only changes during the boss fight itself and then during the aftermath. But maybe Hedlok called the “storm” in right before the boss fight? Maybe but if this was supposed to be a canon storm Hedlok called in (Even though no ARMS character can manipulate weather and no one mentions the sky darkening) then it should likely disappear when Hedlok does. Once again… no. The color persists a long while after Hedlok is gone and only changes during the next transition.

So to us, it seems pretty blatant that Hedlok is not manipulating the weather here. Between the lack of a storm and lack of proof it was Hedloks's doing we cannot use the feat. It is more than likely just an effect used to add to the style of the fight.

Verdict

Stats

When it comes to stats things are very much up to interpretation. On the low end Moira is scaling to 0.23 Tons of TNT by harming Talon’s Heavy Assault units. Coyle however doesn't really have a low end as her best feat is very direct by surviving the 1.86 Tons of TNT drone bombs. However, the second you reach the point of Genji and Titan Omnic scaling things start to shift into Moira’s favor. At minimum Moira would be scaling to 25.44 Tons of TNT with a maximum of 33.5 Tons of TNT. This blows even the most generous and dubious of Coyle's ’ scaling out of the water maxing at 1.29 Megatons of TNT. While Moira is downscaling Dragon Blade Genji by a decent bit, characters who are weaker than Genji have shown the ability to survive an encounter with the Shimada Dragon so Moira should still be in the ballpark of 33.5 Megatons of TNT at her best.

And things aren't much kinder in speed for Dr. Coyle. At the lowest ends Moira is scaling to Soldier 76 who is capable of moving Mach 13.72 while reacting to an explosion. Meanwhile, Dr. Coyle’s best speed feat is during Rush, where she can create after images at Mach 13. Dr. Coyle should be physically downscaling the speed of Rush in base due to Helix and his feat of maneuvering around Rush. While close at first, Moira’s speed grows exponentially the second Genji is thrown into the mix for scaling as he can deflect light at 3.14c and keep up with Tracer moving at 62818c. To say the least, Moira is blitzing Coyle by a lot.

So to put this into perspective, Moira is both way stronger and faster than Dr. Coyle unless you lowball her to her lowest ends.

Abilities and Arsenal

This section is much more interesting than stats with both having some solid advantages.

For Moira, her healing is an incredible advantage to have (especially if you believe her stats are better). Being able to heal passively or off Biotic Grasp, Healing Orb and Coleocense is a massive point in her favor. This is because constantly healing can keep Moira in the fight way longer than Dr. Coyle, allowing her to outlast. Speaking about Coleocense and the Orbs, Moira is also able to bypass Coyle’s Guard with these abilities. Finally, Fade allows Moira to dash around and reposition in ways Coyle can't predict. This makes landing punches and grabs on Moira incredibly difficult for her. Fade would also allow Moira to escape Hedlok if used in time.

But Coyle does have some notable advantages. Immediately Coyle's invisibility is a huge point in her favor as Biotic Grasp struggles to lock onto invisible targets. Along with Guard, this means Dr. Coyle can keep herself safe from Moira's Grasp and break sightings at any moment. Coyle also has a lot more tools in her arsenal with way more variety. Effects like electricity shutdown Moira’s abilities, explosion can potentially hit Moira with large AoE, blind and freeze can allow Coyle to get hits in easier and poison can somewhat negate the health gained back from healing. All of these are powerful tools Dr. Coyle has and can switch between on the fly. Coyles' many different combinations can also counter multiple fighting styles leaving Moira playing catch up throughout the fight. And of course if Moira doesn't have Fade active Coyle can use Hedlok to instantly win against Moira through mind hax.

Overall, Dr. Coyle's arsenal and abilities are generally better but Moira can counter some of hit with her more limited arsenal.

Tertiary

Both of these fighters are used to very different kinds of battlegrounds. Coyle is used to sanctioned, regulated fights. The kind of fights where the only cheating is coming from her. These fights, while punishing, are generally non Lethal. On the other side Moira has no constraints and will fight however she pleases. Her fights are in life or death missions where the rule is to survive. However, she does fight a lot less than Coyle and is meant for teamwork.

Speaking of which, what if we included teamwo…

Yeah so while support is not being considered in our blog it should still be mentioned since Moira and Dr. Coyle were given backup in the original blog. However, even with the loyalty of her support, Coyle's support is way too weak to match up with Talon. Even without including Talon higher ups like Sigma and Doomfist the rest of Talon’s field troops still scale to Genji. Reaper alone is practically unkillable with his wraith physiology and regeneration let alone Mauga who potentially scales to Sigma. Coyle's team just wouldn't be able to keep up if we included them.

When it comes to brains both fighters should be pretty equal in IQ. They are both incredible scientist's placed highly in their organizations who experiment on themselves to get the best results. Both fighters are also great at battle strategy so neither should have an advantage here either. However, when it comes to what happens when their IQ faults is a different story.

Coyle is more excessive with her emotions. Even with Moira’s large ego she rarely shows much emotion compared to Dr. Coyle who is a D1 crashout. If Coyle is nearing defeat she becomes way more desperate and easy to counter.

And when it comes to weaknesses Coyle's just keep stacking. Moira can weaken and disable Coyle's arms, use Fade to close the gap or even cut straight to the source and knock off Coyle's mask. Meanwhile the only other weakness Moira has can be managed if Moira isn't wasteful with her biotic energy and ultimate.

Dr. Coyle is just a lot less solid when it comes to tertiary Factors, giving Moira plenty of openings to go in for the kill.

Conclusion

Unfortunately this fight doesn't seem very close. Dr. Coyle's arsenal and abilities are great and can keep Moira at bay for a little while. However, Moira can play the long game with her healing and better emotional stability. It also helps Moira has way better arguments when it comes to stats meaning she can easily dismantle Coyle if given a few seconds. Seconds she can easily find the time to use with her Fade and superior speed. Even Coyle's Guard can't save her from Moira as she can use Coalescence and Damage Orbs to bypass this defense.

Dr. Coyle tried to lok down a win, but she was stretched too thin. The winner is Moira O’Deorain.

Dr. Coyle

“Thought you'd win, huh?!”

Thank You

Wow Tru! Daring of you to do another bonus project instead of finishing your other blogs. I know, I know. Megaton VS Skeletor and Jin Sakai VS Connor Kenway are making steady progress I promise. However, my good friend Saul came up to me and asked to do a duo blog and I just couldn't say no to this one. I would once again like to make it very clear I mean no true ill will towards the G2 team. I may not see eye to eye with their interpretation of the match but VS is very subjective. Once again a big shout out to Saul for doing this with me, he's a big Overwatch fan like me and I love ARMS. He recently released Lethal Company VS The D Class and it's a great read. Thank you so much for reading as always and I hope to see you back soon!
