"I really connected with martial arts. I'd always had a fantasy as a kid of being a ninja warrior, so it definitely answered that sort of need in my psyche, too - a need to be superpowerful." - Milla Jovovich
Alice Abernathy, the T-Virus enhanced savior of humanity.
Selene, the vampire death dealer of the Underworld.

In the early 2000s Vampires and Zombies have been and still to this day are staples of horror media, and have always had a tight rivalry. So when you get two martial artists who undergo genetic alteration and use the very powers of the monsters they fight, you have one hell of a pairing on your hands. They might not remember their pasts at first, but they got the skills, the weapons, the powers and…. the movie director’s favor on their side. Is there hope for Alice, or is Selene just a cut above the competition?
Before We Begin
With Alice we will primarily focus on the Resident Evil film series. Despite them actually confirming that they’ve tried to have her incorporated into the main canon, Alice does not exist within the video game series. So obviously we can’t scale her to anything from there. However Alice has plenty to work with regardless. We’ll also be looking into the various novelisations of the films, the few movie tie-in games, movie commentaries and the scripts of each film.
Selene is a little more complex. We’ll be looking over all media available from the Underworld franchise. Of course mainly focusing on the original films but will also consider their respective novelisations, the animated short film trilogy, the blood enemy novel, the comics and the official video game for the Playstation 2. As with Alice we’ll also take a gander at movie scripts for a bit more context as well.
Special thanks to…
- Kaiser, Kuma and Vbsw for calcs
- Yuix, Toxin, Pas and L.A.D. for art
Background
Alice

“My name is Alice…. And I remember everything.”
On a cold summer night, a woman had awoken on the floor of her bathroom. She had no memory of how she got there, or even of who she was. As she explored the mansion she found herself in the was suddenly swiftly snatched up by a group of mercenaries who then brought her and another amnesia ridden man to an underground complex known as The Hive. They had found that everyone inside of the complex had been terminated by the Red Queen, a highly advanced AI in control of the hive, as a last resort to contain a quickly spreading plague, the T-virus. Which had been reanimating the dead into the undead.
Soon this woman’s memories would slowly come back. Her name was Alice and she was a security operative for the biggest cooperation in the world, Umbrella. And they were the ones behind this virus. Alice fought for survival as her group was steadily taken out one by one, until only a few remained. In a last ditch effort to escape with the anti-virus, Alice and Matt were heavily injured in a final battle with a mutated monster. After barely escaping with their lives, they were abducted by umbrella agents and then thrust into special weaponizing programs to turn these mere humans into super soldiers. When Alice awoke once again, she found herself alone in an abandoned laboratory. Finding her way out, she then roamed the streets of a city in ruins. Raccoon City had been over taken by the t-virus and it was now Alice’s job to clean up Umbrella’s mess.
She would then encounter Matt once again, having mutated into the Nemesis B.O.W., after defeating him and loading onto a helicopter to escape the city. A nuke would go off dead center of Racoon City, knocking their helicopter off balance and resulting in a fiery crash. When Alice awoke, she learned she had been given supernatural powers and would spend the next four years fighting against Umbrella and their experiments. She would come to adopt an orphaned girl; Becky and her journey would ultimately come to a close when Alice had come into possession of an enhanced variant of the anti-virus, one so strong it would rid the entire planet of this plague. After defeating the last remnants of the Umbrella Cooperation, Alice would cleanse the world of their work. It would take some time for it to take full effect, but humanity could finally take its first steps into reclaiming the planet and Alice could finally rest.
Selene
![]() |
"There is no beginning, there is no end. There is only becoming."
For the last 600 years, Selene had been a key player in the vampires’ war to exterminate the lycans. She couldn’t remember her past before vampirism, but she knew one thing, lycans were to be eliminated. But on one faithful night as she and her team were stalking undercover lycans, her eyes would land on Michael Corvin, who was for some reason being sought out by the werewolves. Curious as to why the lycans would be curious about a human aside from food, Selene would track him down.
She would then come to interrogate Michael, but was swiftly cut off by the intervention of incoming lycans, they both just barely managed to get away, however Michael was bitten. But she would soon come to find that Michael was a long descendant of the Corvinus clan, making him highly desired by the lycans and the reason he was so resistant. Selene tried to hide him from the other vampires, but they were soon found by Kraven, who shot Michael on the spot. In a desperate bid to save his life, Selene bites him to turn him into a vampire but results in him becoming the first Hybrid of the two clans. Disgusted by this mockery, the newly awakened Viktor would set out to destroy Michael and in a final clash between them, he almost succeeds until Selene intervenes. Killing Viktor in a surprise attack.
But Selene and Michael’s time together was ultimately cut short however. Humanity would discover the existence of immortals among them and begin to eradicate them by the masses. Michael was then killed and Selene was put into cryo-stasis for the next 12 years. Once Selene awoke, she would escape her captures and seek revenge on them. She would come to find that she apparently had a daughter, who became her new reason to fight. Selene would go on to become one of the three Vampire Elders, achieving a high ranking position among her remaining people and would lean them to a new, hopeful future.
Experience/Skill/IQ
Alice
![]() |
Alice is kind of ridiculous. Paul W.S. Anderson really wanted to make sure his wife looked badass in these movies. While it’s never elaborated on in the movies themselves, Millia Jovovich has said taekwondo was a heavy influence and Alice uses this to absolutely beat the piss out of zombies lmao. Alice is also of course highly skilled with most forms of weaponry, as she was an Umbrella Corporation security operative. Alice has easily whooped multiple Umbrella Agents at once, even while restrained she’s still a formidable combatant. She’s also beat the hell out of multiple hazmat dudes at once and fought a group of Umbrella Agents while strung upside down.
She’s shown off this skill many times, as she’s been able to match and defeat Ada Wong and Jill Valentine in direct combat. Who are both highly trained fighters in their own right. She’s also battled against genetically mutated monsters on countless occasions. Including B.O.W.s like Nemesis, who could take out entire groups of S.T.A.R.S members to total ease. She’s also boxed and has gotten the drop on Albert Wesker, who could clown characters like the ex-military Chris Redfield.
She’s a natural leader at heart too. Having led Claire Redfield’s militia against Isaacs’ army of men. Alice has shown plenty of cases of using her environment to her advantage and makes her own shotgun shells… with quarters. She’s also exceptionally stealthy, like when she ran down the side of a building to sneak attack Umbrella Agents and just kind of appeared on them without them being any the wiser. She’s a wiz with technology too, she’s stated herself that she hacked into Umbrella Computers, seemingly as if it were no biggie at all and she can drive under high stress situations and use cars effectively in combat.
Selene
![]() |
Selene is around 600 years old and has engaged in almost ceaseless conflict for centuries hunting down lycans, becoming an expert in lycan and vampire kind. She regularly practices with firearms, and her combat skills are stated to be “second to none”, with even older immortals like Marcus saying she was an impressive opponent. Kate Beckinsale, Selene’s actress, was trained in kick boxing and karate for the role, giving a bit of credence to these statements. Selene’s so good that she was tasked with training dozens of vampires into capable warriors, making them adept in hand to hand combat and with firearms. Selene isn’t just a fighter though. One of her most consistent skills is observation. She’ll bid her time to observe a target and wait for the right moment to strike, which she has been doing to lycans for hundreds of years.
Selene has likely killed a countless amount of werewolves during her lifespan. Including exceptionally dangerous ones like the Super Lycan and she’s even taken down fellow vampires, including ones that were much more experienced foes than herself, like Viktor or Marcus just to name a couple. Vampires who were considered stronger than the rest of their species due to their age, but that didn’t stop them from getting their asses beat.
Selene has survived purges on immortals throughout the world, which makes sense since she’s an expert in stealth tactics and with a wide variety of weapons. She’s got a tendency to seek out weak points and exploit them and her aim is pretty insane too, like with the time she threw her shuriken behind her back to cut off a lycan’s ear and she’s pretty handy in general. She can rewire security door panels in mere seconds and has performed on the fly surgery. To add on top of this, Selene has gained the memories of vampires even older than herself. Likely by over 1,000 years, giving her even more combat experience to pull from.
Abilities
Alice
T-Virus Physiology
![]() |
The T-Virus itself was created for the purpose of curing a number of disabilities and was somewhat successful. Until one day it just started turning people into zombies and Umbrella started using it as a weapon. As said by the Red Queen, “The virus is a pathogen, changing from liquid to airborne to blood transmission, depending on its environment. It’s almost impossible to kill.” Meaning there’s basically no shaking this stuff.
After the events of the first movie, Alice was taken by Umbrella and experimented on in…. Project Alice. Turning her into a full fledged super soldier via the T-Virus, with it bonding with her on a cellular level and her abilities have only been growing in power since due to further experimentation. With strength, speed and durability being greatly enhanced, Alice is a monster physically and the virus also gives her a minor healing factor. It is able to swiftly heal cuts and minor wounds and she has enhanced senses, as she could sense Nemesis’ presence without line of sight and has enhanced eyesight. She can even sense other hosts of the T-Virus.
Alice was considered a perfect test subject by Umbrella. Albert Wesker, who was fighting for control with the T-Virus, later in the series also states that he desires Alice’s DNA due to her being the only test subject to successfully bond with the virus, and her genetic code had been stronger than the others. If he were to consume her DNA, he would be able to regain control over the virus in his veins. It’s also been established that due to the T-Virus bonding with her blood, a cure can be synthesized from it with the correct equipment. The Virus itself is incredibly deadly and hard to pin down, constantly able to change its form from liquid to airborne to blood transmitted depending on the environment. Lisa goes as far to say it’s likely a more deadly weapon than the atom bomb. Alice however does say she isn't contagious. So just standing around her isn’t going to kill you or something. But this has given her a variety of extra powers to boot.
Enhanced Agility
![]() |
Taking inspiration from classic kung-fu movies, Paul W.S. Anderson wanted Alice to be insanely agile in the sequels. Thanks to the virus, she can make long leaps and not bend her knees and dead jump over fences. Even without the virus she is still quite nimble, being able to do front flips and jump long distances mid fight.
High Endurance and Stamina
![]() |
She could rip out surgical needles with minimal effort and could casually tear shards of glass from her leg. She can withstand hits from superhumanly strong foes, like when she took a beating from the insanely strong Isaacs, even when she had her fingers cut off, she pushed through the pain and continued to fight. Even without her powers she could still run at full speed from a horde while being dragged behind a vehicle, even after being beaten.
Psionic Powers
![]() |
Kind of going against the main shtick of the franchise here but yeah, this happened. She possesses potent telekinesis. She can control things with her mind and could create sheilds and redirect pillars of flame to kill a giant horde of infected crows. This ability also seemingly has a very far range, as in Afterlife, Alice was able to shut down a satellite in space. She can also just brutally kill people by thinking, even if they’re in a completely different area than her. She also seemingly has some form of telepathy, as shown more directly in Afterlife she could see the memories of the dead through touching objects around them. But she also technically shows this a little bit in Apacolypse. She had some control over electronics too. Like when she forced dozens of security cameras to focus on her just to flex on this dude, who she then just murders with her mind.
Various Resistances
![]() |
- Infection - She’s the only one of Umbrella’s experiments to have successfully bonded with the T-Virus and is naturally immune to any of its ill side effects.
- Electricity - Unfazed by being shot with a taser and then threw it back at the user.
- Mind Control - She was able to fight off Umbrella’s mind control devices, which also destroyed them as she did this.
- Body Control - Resisted Rain’s heart stop attack, which had earlier killed a normal man instantly.
- Freezing Temperatures - Fought with Jill Valentine for a very extended period of time in the arctic cold.
Selene
Vampire Physiology
![]() |
Selene possesses all your typical vampiric abilities. She is effectively immortal, has superhuman strength, speed and endurance. Vampires in general are able to leap over a dozen feet into the air, can cling to/walk on walls and of course are capable of biting a victim to drain them of their blood. As shown with other Vamps, consuming blood can also grant access to the memories of the victim. Selene has used her own blood to transfer memories to others as well. Selene herself has said that a mere bite from an immortal would kill a normal person within a single hour, as the viruses they transmit are deadly.
Vampires also have healing factors, which is obviously quite potent. Being able to heal from things like a close range shotgun blast and even sunlight burns in a matter of minutes. She was impaled several times by Marcus, including through the chest at one point. She’s been stabbed in the shoulder in a sneak attack and just didn’t care and has just straight up been shot in the head and hardly reacted. This all helped her healing factor and with the added bonus of healing wounds instantaneously if she is to consume blood.
Vampire DNA is established to be completely incompatible with Lycan DNA, even down to a cellular level they will destroy each other, basically meaning they can’t turn each other. It’s also later established that after her “evolution”, Selene’s blood can be directly applied to another vampire’s heart, bringing them back to life and as an evolved vampire themselves. In Underworld: Evolution, Selene drinks the blood of Alexander Corvinus, the first true immortal. Not only did this give her access to his memories, it also amplified her already impressive physicality. Making her strong and faster, enough to challenge Marcus and William. It also has the added bonus of making her immune to sunlight.
In the last movie Selene gets yet another upgrade, after undergoing a cocooning process, she gains enhanced physical capabilities. To where she was defeated by Marius, she could now beat the shit out of him. Her super speed was also seemingly enhanced, as she blitzed an entire group of enemies to everyone’s shock.
Enhanced Senses
![]() |
In the Awakening film, Selene seems to gain a sort of telepathic ability, being able to receive visions of other people are seeing at the moment. Even when she was unconscious and frozen in a block of ice, she could telepathically see through her rescuers eyes for a short time until she awoke. In the novelisation of Evolution, her senses were heightened to alert her to even the slightest tell of an incoming ambush, and in the novelisation of Rise of the Lycans, Sonja, a fellow vampire, had heightened senses alert to danger.
Super Speed and Agility
![]() |
Thanks to being an ancient vampire, Selene is pretty damn nimble. She could leap across roof tops in the anime and can perform jumps worth dozens of feet into the air vertically, including some pretty sick backflips. She’s also just insanely fast in general. She can dodge bullets and has actual super speed. She can move so fast it's almost as if she just teleported on top of these guys and after her reawakening in Blood Wars, she only got even faster.
Video Game Powers
![]() |
In the official (and terrible) video game, vampires have three unique abilities to activate during gameplay. “Control Blood” allows the player to increase their health, “Blinding Speed” amps up their running speed and reload speed for a short time and then “Blood Frenzy” is a boost to physical power and makes them harder to put down.
Various Resistances
![]() |
- Infection - Due to her vampire DNA, Selene is immune to being infected by Lycans, as the competing viruses will battle it out on a cellular level.
- Aging - Selene is effectively immortal and ages incredibly slowly, if at all.
- Sunlight - After drinking the blood of an elder vampire, Selene gained the new benefit of being completely unfazed by sunlight.
- Electricity - Fellow vampires can take blasts from the electricity gun in the video game.
- Freezing Temperatures - Selene seems to be completely unbothered by winter climates, even without wearing proper attire.
- Heat/Fire - In the video game, Selene and other characters can withstand blasts from a flamethrower.
Arsenal
Alice
Melee Weaponry
![]() |
Alice doesn’t just beat the shit out of zombies with her bare hands. She’s used a lot of melee weapons over the years. Like retractable batons, kukri machetes, dual katanas, an axe, various knives, an umbrella combat knife and ice axes, as pictured above. Alice doesn’t typically carry any of these on her person besides the katanas and maybe a knife or two. She’s a scrapper and will use whatever is lying around.
Explosives
![]() |
Alice likes blowing shit up. Her clones have used incendiary grenades before and the real Alice herself has looted umbrella hand grenades. A whole belt of the things was strong enough to kill the Uber Licker, which could survive being buried in a collapsing tunnel, flip cars and dig its way through said tunnel of concrete. She’s also used claymore mines and timed explosives. Multiple of which caused a building sized explosion.
High-Tech Gear
![]() |
Alice has gathered some nifty gadgets too. Like the Hakim Optical-Style Glasses, which can direct Alice through unfamiliar territory. In the last film she also gets the Red Queen Earpiece. A small device that allows Alice to have direct contact with the Red Queen, a highly advanced AI that is stated to be 10 years more advanced than any computer at the time. Though she cannot act against a member of Umbrella, she can tamper with electronics and has alerted Alice to nearby danger. In the Novelisation, the Red Queen also aided Alice in finding her adoptive Daughter. Though she has been shut down via EMPs, She has very good defenses against hacking. In another novelisation though, she does get her own EMP. In the films she was also given Ada’s hook shot. Which was strong enough to punch through body armor.
Firearms
![]() |
Being in such a gigantic action franchise and a surprisingly successful one at that, Alice has accumulated a large amount of guns over her adventures. Of course she doesn't usually keep any of these regularly, but we’re gonna list 'em all out anyways.

Miscellaneous Tools
![]() |
Alice has a ton of one-off trinkets throughout the films. Like a grappling hook, sony hdr-ux7, rope, chain, gerber gear, flashlight, gasoline, flares, wrist watch, duffel bag and classic ninja stars.
Various Vehicles
![]() |
Alice really loves motorcycles. In the first novelisation she drove around on a classic Harley Davidson Motorcycle but in the movies she drives a BMW 1000 XR Motorcycle and a Suzuki Intruder, which She has a helmet along with and uses it to overpower a Licker, by just driving right into the fucker. She’s had a few cars too. Like a Honda Civic, a 2009 Rolls-Royce Phantom, and a B.S.S.A Jeep. Alice used it to fight and overpower this bat monster, which could smash down the side of a building. She’s flown a plane before as well, specifically a 1983 Yak-52.
The Anti-Virus
![]() |
In the first couple movies, Alice came into possession of a few cases with an injectable variant to cure her infected friends. But later in the series it’s revealed Umbrella also made an airborne version. As explained by the Red Queen, it is capable of destroying the T-Virus world wide and anything in contact with it. She had to go on a pretty lengthy journey to get this thing, but by the end of it she just smashed that shit on the ground and it worked immediately. Ultimately ridding the world of the T-virus forever.
Selene
Firearms
![]() |
Selene uses a wide variety of firearms throughout the films, though her preferred weapons seems to be either the beretta 92fs or the walther p99. We’ll also consider any other firearm we see Death Dealers use in general, as Selene should just have access to them since her whole crew take from the same armory. In the video game, even her weakest guns can destroy large sections of rock and concrete.

- Saw Launcher - A unique weapon that fires five projectiles in a spread per shot.
- Missile Launcher - Fires high powered rockets that knock even larger enemies off their feet.

- Laser Cannon - One of the more powerful weapons in the video game, it fires a continuous beam that shreds enemy health bars.
Special Ammo Types
![]() |
- Silver Bullets - A classic tool against Werewolves, though they usually only slow them down depending where they’re shot.
- Silver Nitrate Rounds - When regular silver bullets fail, these come out. They’re filled with liquid silver nitrate that releases on impact.
- Ultraviolet Ammunition - A unique invention by Lycans, it’s basically sunlight in a bullet.
- Curving Bullets - In a moment in the anime, Selene was pointing her guns completely straight yet the bullets somehow hit the ground. The animators didn’t give a shit lmao.
Various Melee Weaponry
![]() |
Seemingly Selene’s preferred choice for melee combat are these duel wielded swords in the anime and a silver sword in Blood Wars, which she uses to hack up werewolves like butter. She’s also been known to carry a combat knife, but really Selene usually improvises with what's laying around. She’s used Viktor’s own sword against him after he dropped it and in other movies she’s used a battle axe and a pretty handy bullet proof shield.
Shurikins
![]() |
Selene carries around these little disks made of silver, they’re just one of Selene’s many go-to options against Lycans. When they’re activated, it will reveal four separate blades. They’re strong enough to slice limbs off Lycans and she’s also got explosive versions, which could blow up large sections of rock.
Silver Nitrate Weaponry
![]() |
On top of the specialised bullets, Selene and the vampires have a few extra weapons specially tailored to killing Lycans. They’re got liquid nitrate grenades and timed explosive gas variants too. In the anime, the vampires also used this liquid nitrate spray for a brief moment and were equipped with these powerful light weapons to use against hiding Lycans.
Various Vehicles
![]() |
Selene’s main cruiser is a 1998 Maserati in the first film (Though they say it was a hunk of shit in the dvd commentary) and she also drove a modified Harley Davidson V-Rod, styled out to fit her early 2000s emo aesthetic.
Miscellaneous Gear
![]() |
Selene has had a few one-off trinkets over the movies. She’s got specialized glow sticks, medical equipment, x-ray technology and was given “blood rings”, filled with the blood of Amelia. In the video game, Selene can also pick up these artifacts to heal damage or restore energy. Why she would need these when her healing factor is already sort of cracked, I have no idea.

Albert Wesker
![]() |
The main villain of the franchise. While scaling to Wesker within the game universe can be fairly criticized, the movie universe is a different beast. Alice has gone toe to toe with Wesker and has defeated him, with him later even suggesting that Alice is fully capable of just killing him with her powers and that she is the only test subject to have successfully bonded with the t-virus, unlike himself. So scaling Alice to the big man should be fine, especially since she isn’t just a normal person either.

Weaknesses
Alice
![]() |
Alice is a pretty ridiculously over the top action hero, but she does have some flaws, despite claims of her being otherwise.
- Limited Regeneration - Alice’s regeneration has clear limits. It can heal broken bones and cuts, but something more intense like a bullet to the head is a bit much for her. As clearly shown with her own clones. If she takes too much damage, she’ll be incapacitated and require lengthy medical attention.
- Power Nullification - There’s also the instance where Wesker was able to nullify her powers by injecting her with a specialized serum to target t-cells in her body, completely removing her powers from her entirely
- Power Limitation - It's also worth pointing out that at least as of Resident Evil: Extinction, Alice’s powers, if overused or over taxed, are heavily draining on her physical stamina and energy, requiring her to rest for long periods of time.
- Memory Loss - There’s also of course the thing the series starts out with, Alice losing her memories due to specialized toxins released by the red queen.
Selene
Early in the series Selene had the same weakness to light like any other vampire, though after consuming the blood of the first immortal, she now doesn’t have to worry about this. Though she still has a few noteworthy shortcomings.
- Nightshade Metal - It’s a specialized metal that attacks vampiric cells, for a regular vamp this would normally be fatal but Selene is especially tough. So she just experiences fatigue and paralysis.
- Limited Regeneration - Her regeneration is impressive but it does have limits, it’s been over taxed by too much damage before, and other vampires have been put down by dismemberment or targeting specific organs.
- Bloodthirst - As a vampire, Selene requires regular consumption of blood to stay vigilant and energized.
Before We Decide
Wesker totally sustained that nuke, bro trust me
![]() |
Some may think that Wesker survived an umbrella nuke that earlier in the movie could create a town sized hole in a city. But actually, if you pay close attention, Wesker is shown to have escaped later. His ass got the fuck out of there and paracuted away lmao. So it’s actually more likely a speed feat if anything. As he would’ve had to grab a parachute and outrun that explosion in like… a second to survive this. Even if this were valid though, actually scaling to it would still be tricky at best. Since earlier in the movie, this same bomb kills multiple Alice clones at the same time. They were even just trying to get the hell out of there as well. So given this, even if Wesker did actually take that nuke, you could just argue that Wesker just regenerated after being turned to mush or something. As we do know he had a pretty handy healing factor (Until the last movie at least lmao).

Stats
Right out the gate you’d probably think these two aren't gonna be too crazy in this department but even at their lowest they’re still pretty superhuman.
Even as early as the first movie and before any genetic code tampering, Alice was more than capable of snapping necks with relative ease but Selene matches this in her first movie as well and scales way higher too. Viktor could body slam Michael’s hybrid form through a stone wall, clocking in a 0.0003 Tons of TNT, beating out a beginning Alice quite easily. However, in later movies when Alice is depowered she does take explosions that’d likely match that level of power regardless.
Of course we’re not just keeping Alice restricted to her regular ass human form, we’re accounting for t-virus shenanigans too. She’d scale above Claire Redfield, who in the later movies survived an explosion. Getting up to 0.002 Tons of TNT. Pretty good! And only slightly weaker than Michael surviving being thrown through a pillar in the anime, which itself gets 0.003 Tons of TNT. Though this is about where Selene calculable caps out. The best you can argue for Alice physically is the big man himself, Albert Wesker. While Wesker is kind of a chud in these movies, he’s still got some pretty good feats for scaling. He could survive a giant explosion in Resident Evil Afterlife, getting around 0.2 Tons of TNT. Significantly above any calc we have for the Underworld series. Even if we account for Selene’s upgrades later in the series, these are undefined amps to be strength, so we can’t really lean on them to say she can match Alice potentially scaling to Wesker.
Selene should have higher lifting strength than Alice for sure though. She can flip goddamn cars and fight Macius, who could pull around a flying helicopter, altitudes higher than anything Alice has used her muscle to lift. Travel speed is also an easy bag for Selene, like c’mon, she’s got super speed and it only got better by the end of the series. So in a foot race or arm wrestling match, Selene should dominate. However, Alice’s reaction speeds are definitely much better and should allow her to react to a full sprint Selene.
Underworld is kicking around sub-mach speeds consistently. With Selene having the highest speed showcased reactions of Mach 0.6, certainly nothing to scoff at and her super speed can get up to Mach 2.1, but Alice has it much better. Even characters like Ada Wong have feats around Mach 4. While that scene in particular is definitely shot weirdly, this is only made more consistent through Wesker, who could out pace explosions at nearly Mach 5, nearly an 8x difference in Alice’s favor. Alice in general also just has far more consistent bullet timing than Selene directly and with it just being more consistent in the Resident Evil movies as a whole as well. Selene also might be able to out muscle Alice physically, but her telekinesis more than makes up for that difference. Its attack potency of 0.2 Tons of TNT is way higher than anything in Underworld and its lifting strength is certainly in a similar range of Selene. As even in Alice’s sleep this stuff could lift up several large boulders and her motorcycle all at the same time in the third film.
Overall, while stats aren’t terribly dissimilar and Selene might have physical lifting strength and travel speed in her corner, Alice solidly takes the edge in stats due to her more consistent scaling and higher results in the end.

Skill
Skill is probably a toss up for the casual viewer. Both of these characters are just visually ridiculous, tend to utilize their environment and are clearly martial arts masters. Alice, as confirmed in behind the scenes commentary, has her fighting style specifically based on taekwondo. Alice has showcased that she can hang in there against genetically enhanced fighters like Nemesis and Wesker, and has handled plenty of skilled fighters like former police officer; Jill Valentine and secret agent; Ada Wong. Meanwhile Selene is directly stated that her fighting skills are “second to none”, and she’s taken down groups of trained fighters and opponents with centuries of combat experience. So direct hand to hand skill could likely go either way.
Both are of course very skilled with firearms and can pull off headshots rather easily, even on fast moving targets or multiple at once. But Selene has shown proficiency with a few more guns than her. Alice does have official training, being security of Umbrella before the events of the first movie, but Selene regularly trains with firearms and in general Selene just has much more experience compared to Alice, by a lot. Selene at the start of the series is already over 600 years old. And she wasn’t just hanging around for all that time.
Selene since the day she was turned was aiding in the vampires’ war against the Lycans, and this alone should just give her a massive leg up over Alice. But that’s not all either, after Selene drank the blood of the first ever immortal, she also gained his memories on top of that, meaning on top of her own 600 years worth of experience…. She’s also got the experience of someone even older than her, by around a 1,000 more years at least. You can bring up how Alice has technically engaged in wider scale events, but this hardly compares to the sheer experience difference here.
Selene has just simply been in the game much longer than Alice and other subcategories here are either rather close or slightly leaning towards Selene.

Weaponry
Like an action franchise, these two use a metric fuck-ton of weapons, but who’s got the better gear? They both have a similar amount of regular firearms, though Selene does have a few more and does have some crazier choices thanks to the video game. She’s got saw blade launchers, several explosive launchers and her lightning gun can stun foes in place, and multiple at once at that. She’s also got a goddamn laser cannon. Surprisingly, Alice doesn’t really have anything too crazy like this. She gets a gun with infinite ammo in one of her browser games, but you can easily just argue this is a game mechanic. So right out the gate, Selene has weaponry with higher destructive capability and the hax to lock Alice down if the occasion arises. Selene’s guns are also just directly much more powerful than Alice’s, as in the video game even the most mook of her guns can destroy large stone constructs. Alice’s grenades or her shell launcher are similarly destructive to be fair, but are more limited by comparison.
Alice does have access to better technology overall though. Her optical glasses can give her a layout of the surrounding area but more importantly, she has access to the Red Queen through her ear piece. With intelligence a decade more advanced than modern computers and the ability to hack into nearby electronics and observe over the fight, this can give Alice a leg up over any attempts of stealth from Selene. The Red Queen would also not be bound by her restrictions of acting against umbrella agents against Selene, potentially giving Alice direct support in the fight that Selene just lacks. However this would be heavily dependent on the environment they’re fighting in.
It is worth mentioning that Selene’s use of silver and anti-lycan/vampire weaponry wouldn’t be especially effective against Alice for obvious reasons, but a gun is still a gun and a grenade is still a grenade. They both have a similar amount of melee weapons to pull from but outside of their actual powers, Selene has a bit more options for defense. She’s got ways to buff up her stats to close the gap with Alice, items to replenish health and energy and she’s got a bullet proof shield. Alice doesn't really have similar options at her disposal and having bullet proof protections in a gunfight is an advantage that can’t really be underestimated.
Another thing is the anti-virus at Alice’s disposal. To be frank, it’s unlikely to accomplish much against Selene. The anit-virus was designed to be a specific cure or suppressant with the T-Virus, a much different type of infection compared to the vampire plague for obvious reasons. The anti-virus has failed in the past with people who are already too far gone and Selene is obviously already a vampire. Alice likely wouldn’t even try this regardless anyways but it’s worth giving a mention to.
Alice certainly isn’t exactly lacking in this department, but Selene takes the edge with her more varied arsenal, defense and destructive weaponry.

Biology
At the end of the day, both of these characters are superhuman, and any of the prior advantages don’t particularly matter if they can’t work around each other's power or actually kill the other. Firstly, they actually match each other in a lot of ways. Both have similar enhanced senses, comparable agility, and share some of the same resistances. But both have a few key factors over the other that can lead to a win.
Selene’s healing factor is way better than Alice’s. While having one at all is pretty handy, it’s not like Alice’s is bad or anything. Selene’s is healing her from bullets to the head and being impaled several times. So Alice is going to be hard pressed being able to actually kill Selene. Not only that, Selene can speed this up from drinking Alice’s blood if she gets the chance. Healing any wounds she may get practically immediately. Selene’s super speed also should not be overlooked, as that’d make her incredibly hard to tag reliably. This paired with her own agility and ability to climb on walls, she can play an evasive game that Alice can’t really replicate.
Alice can die from a gun shot. Shots to the head have left her crippled in the past and required her to have extensive and long periods of recovery and medical aid, as shown in the ending of Resident Evil: Apocalypse and her clones have been killed like this before. She can heal broken bones and cuts pretty quickly, sure but massive damage like that has always been too much. So Selene certainly has more room for error compared to Alice in this regard. Especially with the health and energy boosters from the video game and bullet proof shields to back it up.
So how can Alice work against this? Well, over all, Alice’s psionic powers is one of the biggest factors here as well and its sheer versatility probably makes it the single most dangerous thing at play here. The range of her telekinesis is actually ridiculous, being able to reach all the way into space to tamper with umbrella satellites and its area of effect can tear apart an entire parking lot. So Alice easily has range and AOE on her side. The ability to make telekinetic force fields would also mean that Selene is similarly hard pressed to be able to land a killing blow. Not to mention one good shot from this would just kill Selene immediately as discussed in the stats section. But Alice doesn't need to resort to brute force for this either. Alice has been able to crush people’s brains without even having a direct line of sight on them. Giving Alice ways to over tax Selene’s healing factor and win this rather easily.
But one could argue Selene can just bite Alice and be over with it. Selene has said a bite from an immortal would kill a normal person in due time and super speed on Selene’s level could catch Alice off guard, as it actually has in the past with Wesker. But not only was Alice depowered in that moment, but getting in that close to Alice would just set Selene up to get her head punched off due to the sheer physical difference between the two. The t-virus as well is likely Alice’s most surprising advantage here, as it would just protect Alice from the vampire plague.
Firstly, Selene’s statement is about normal people, which Alice just isn’t by the end of the first film. Alice is perfectly bonded with the t-virus, as is stated several times in these movies, to where others have failed and even Wesker struggled to keep its mutations at bay. That alone already gives precedent to Alice resisting it. Selene’s vampire DNA can fight off the lycan virus down to a cellular level, and vice versa but the t-virus is bonded with Alice at a cellular level as well. The t-virus is also highly adaptable, much more than anything insinuated for vampires in Underworld. With it being able to adapt to its environment it could just adapt to this new threat like any other and hold it off. As we know from real life studies, viruses will compete with each other for control over a host and quite simply, the t-virus has much more going on in comparison. So really, either it just does nothing, or gives Alice her own vampire powers, which would just make things worse for Selene.
So ultimately, Alice just sort of has this in the bag. Her powers grant her vastly superior range and aoe, and the t-virus negating any possible ill effects from Selene’s bite just seals her fate in her tomb. Alice Abernathy takes the final category.

Thank You/Next Time
Huge thanks to anyone who actually took the time to read this. This was a nice quick one I threw together in around 2 weeks. I had already fully researched Alice a year or two ago and someone brought this up to me as a match that doesn’t really get talked about much. Despite it kind of being a classic debate, as I'm sure most people who, like me, grew up in the late 90s/Early 2000s are pretty aware of these characters. Hell, I remember arguing with my brothers on who’d win this when I was around 8 years old. So it was pretty fun to have a look back on these movies and give ‘em a bit of love.
This one was a little bit of a roller coaster, as when I was researching Selene I thought she was just going to slam Alice, but then I relooked at some stuff and yeah, Alice sort of just wrecks. I guess this could change if that Underworld tv show actually gets off the ground but at the same time Milla Jovovich is interested in coming back to Resident Evil, so who knows. (Bring in the goat Capcom…)
Another thanks to Tru for hosting this for me as well. I have a ton of back pocket research just eating up space in my harddrive so probably expect a few more quick blogs like this in the near future. Currently considering Left 4 Dead 2 vs Zombieland, or maybe something with Patrick Bateman. I really need to clear some space lmao and those would be pretty easy to do since I've already done the research. So since Tru is more than willing, there will be more to come.
I'm also gonna close this off with saying I’m obviously a gigantic fan of Resident Evil as a whole, even at its sloppiest of times. So no, I’m not done with Resident Evil just yet, so keep your eyes out.
